h48 General Information & FAQs

Anyone with the enthusiasm, creativity, and energy, to shoot and edit a horror movie in 48 hours.

Yes!  We have teams compete from all over Idaho. We will work with you to deliver your team packet via e-mail and then collect your film using WeTransfer.

No. All teams will compete in the same category.

To facilitate an “Audience Choice” award, we need to be able to show all the films in one screening.  So, necessarily we have to impose a cap of fifteen (15) teams to avoid running out of time. 

Entries must be submitted online, when registration opens, at https://www.idaho48.org/h48-registration/

The entry fee is $55.00. Entries must be submitted online by Noon on October 10, 2025.

As stated above, participation in h48 is capped to fifteen (15) teams.

In addition to a) defraying the costs of staging this event, and b) getting the opportunity to participate, teams will receive ten (10) All Access Festival Passes to the Boise Fright Film Festival, which will be good for the h48 screening and most of the other films at the Egyptian that day.

It’s completely up to the teams, but a team must have at least two (2) members.

A Team Representative from each filmmaker team must be present at the Pre-Production Meeting.  At that meeting, each team is assigned four previously undisclosed elements that must be incorporated into their movie:  1) a line of dialogue, 2) a prop and 3) the specific type of horror film

We accept online delivery of films using WeTransfer, a free large-file transfer service found at www.wetransfer.com and turn-in of your paperwork via e-mail. NO DROPBOX & NO GOOGLE DRIVE

THE FILM:

• Your film file must be less than 2GB to utilize WeTranfer’s free service.
• Send the film files to jakekuwana@gmail.com (You’ll type that into the box on WeTransfer marked “Friend’s e-mail.”)
• Your film must be finished uploading to WeTransfer by 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024. Upload times vary, so give yourself plenty of time.

THE PAPERWORK:

DO NOT SEND PAPERWORK VIA WE TRANSFER WITH THE FILM:

• Send your script, credits list and image & location releases to josie@idaho48.org
• Your paperwork must be e-mailed by 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024

It is very important that you follow the specific technical specifications for h48. If not, your film may be disqualified.

All completed films will be screened at the Egyptian Theatre on Saturday, October 19, 2024 @ 4pm.

“Best of the Fest”- $250 cash prize + trophy (selected by h48 judges)

 “Almost Best of the Fest” – $100 cash prize + trophy (selected by h48 judges)

“Audience Choice” – $100 cash prize + trophy (selected by audience balloting at the     screening)

“Best Actress” – Trophy (selected by h48 judges)

“Best Actor” – Trophy (selected by h48 judges)

“Best Special Effects” – Trophy (selected by h48 judges)

“Best Makeup” – Trophy (selected by h48 judges)

“Best Costume” – Trophy (selected by h48 judges)

We will not be selling DVDs or posting the films to the Internet on i48’s Vimeo account due to the content of the films, so you’ll have to get a copy from your team!
